I have to say I thought I would like this version until I heard it and no I do not really like it. It has disappointed me.

There's also tons of comments one can make about this beautiful song — and of course — Everly Brothers rendition!

The only take missing from the Cadence Sessions vol. I [1957 - 1960] is track # 1.

See if you can spot how the song arrangement evolved along the session.

"Like Strangers" recorded by The Everly Brothers ~ LYRICS:
Like strangers
That's what we are
Darling, how can lovers pull apart so far
Like strangers?
How can it be?
Only days ago, we loved so tenderly
I love you, truly I do
And I hope deep in your heart you love me too
Let's forget that we've been angry
Let's be lovers like before
And try not to be like strangers, anymore

Let's forget that we've been angry
Let's be lovers like before
And swear not to be like strangers, anymore

According to the poster of this recording, keoki82,

"A great song. Listen for the difference in sound of the guitars and percussion between the early take and the master." Published on Mar 28, 2014

Chris,

Every time Emmy Lou and her music come up, I tell myself I understand how you ladies get distracted from the music by the guys being so attractive. LOL!

Gloria,

The "alternate take" is actually take # 8 of post # 920.

So, can you all tell what "keoki 82" means by «the difference in sound of the guitars and percussion» between this, the other takes and the released version; and what he means by «percussion»?

Haha Ricardo the distraction works both ways!! Wink

The link you attached earlier I had listened half way through and promised myself I would come back and listen to the end, I got distracted and forgot, then Gloria posted the link of the alternate take with the master recording.

"Don, don't bend that 'lover's word too much" I do like to hear all the banter in the studio.

I have been listening to a few really nice recordings of this song from other artists but the month is still early so I will refrain from posting too many at once.Smile

Oh no, another that UK cannot view #926Unhappy

This is Cliff singing live on his world tour singing "Like Strangers", there are other options, such as the recorded version but I thought it is always very nice to see a live performance.

THE LIVE VERSION BY CLIFF RICHARD IS FABULOUS!

Thanks for posting it! Sorry the the clip in #926 is not viable in UK Unhappy
Much as covers of "Like Strangers" are appreciated, for me the vocal magic of The Everly Brothers takes this song to another level, a very emotive level. In such a romantic realm, one doesn't mind hearing it many times over (at least, I do not mind one bit!).

Audio Recording from a vinyl, apparently enhancing the sound:

Like Strangers? These 2 are in beautiful harmony, I love the guitar playing in the middle of the song. Just Beautiful.

Here sung by the famous Norwegian artist Jørn Hoel in a duet with the Danish vocalist Søs Fenger!

Some excellent comments on youtube.
