A rock festival that was advertised for Galena, IL, but ended up being held in Wadena, IA, Aug. 2, 1970:

I found this very interesting, and funny at points. Donations for the crew etc. Hot as heck in the Midwest at that time of the year, and it was a good thing to have the river to cool off in.
Some great entertainment, of course I would have loved to have seen the Everly's.

Wonder why the switch in venues. I would have loved to see Little Richard tear up his piano and put his foot on the piano keys! haha

It says "on the banks of the Galena River." Maybe the river flooded out of its banks. Or there was a heavy mosquito infestation if it was an open air type concert. Wadena, IA is not that far from Galena, IL, just over the state line into Illinois. It seems it was a relatively easy change of venue.

You're right, Marion, it is hot as heck in late July-early August in the Midwest. I remember it well! I would lay out in the sun and work on my tan. No melanoma worries then! In fact, it is so hot, I would say it is hot as h---, but I won't. My mama raised me right.
