Lenore, sorry to be slow getting back to you on this. Life called! Ha! The "chings" in "Bowling Green" are not Kentuckian, just as the little "bababa bababa"s they do are not Kentuckian, but just little vocalizations. Great song, I have always loved it. A personal favorite of Chris'.

and here Ivan and I thought we came up with the answer to this mystery! I have listened to that song so many times (and so has Ivan) that I personally like it less when I don't hear "ching" even if they have no significance other than a vocalization.

No, it's not a Southern "thang". It's just them getting creative with different sounds or fillers or beats.

That was their magic, Jo. People over the decades have tried to replicate what they had. No one could. They were taught how to sing that way as small boys by Daddy Ike, so they had been doing it their whole lives.

I think Phil said it, that it's in the DNA. They were brothers and as you said honing their skills and that talent since young boys.
